About Aderyn Studio

CRAFTED BY HAND AND HEART

ABOUT

Good design is the result of good process. We are deeply dedicated to craft, and the direct connection between material, form and function lies at the heart of what we do. Our creative process is iterative. We build upon one another’s ideas to arrive at a final design that feels like an authentic expression of what the wood wants to say. We create all of our unique finishes - including our signature shou sugi ban finish - in-house, meticulously applying them using non-toxic methods that are safe for human beings and nature alike.

A fusion of high design, high craft and high touch, our furniture is designed for sitting, for eating, for working, for gathering. Our goal with every piece is to create furnishings that will last - loved and passed down as heirlooms for the next generation.

Founded by Phil Vaughn and Chelsea Brown, Aderyn Studios is dedicated to creating warm, modern furnishings that stand the test of time. We fuse sophisticated, modern design with warm materials and hand-crafted detail. We create furniture for real life.

ORIGINS

You could say that the origins of Aderyn Studio lie in our first date. From the minute we began sketching designs on a napkin, we knew we hand stumbled upon something special: two creative minds completely in sync. A general contractor who grew up in woodworking and an interior designer with a passion for form and finish, we founded our studio to feed our shared passion for good design, creating furniture that would honor and preserve the beauty of nature.

ROOTS

Our roots run deep. Our studio is the distillation of generations of artists, designers and builders. Phil grew up carving things out of wood alongside his grandfather, who was especially fond of carving birds. Inspired by his legacy, we named our studio “aderyn” - the Welch word for “bird.” We know he would be proud of what we have created together.

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” -- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
